When Should You Book a Newborn Photographer in Edmonton?

One of the most common questions I hear from expecting parents is:
"When should you book a newborn photographer in Edmonton?"
The short answer? Earlier than most people think.
The best time to reserve your newborn session is usually during your second trimester. While the session itself won't take place until after your baby arrives, booking ahead helps ensure space is available around your due date.

Why Book Before Your Baby Is Born?
The first few weeks with a newborn have a way of passing in a blur. Between feedings, diaper changes, sleepless nights, and adjusting to life as a family, photography is often the last thing on your mind.
By booking during pregnancy, everything is already taken care of before your baby arrives. Once you're home with your newborn, all you need to do is send me a quick message letting me know they've arrived, and we'll choose a session date.
When Do Newborn Sessions Take Place?
Most newborn sessions are photographed within the first two weeks after birth.
During this stage, babies tend to be sleepier and more comfortable being gently curled up, which allows for those soft, peaceful newborn portraits many parents love. That said, there is no magic deadline.
Beautiful newborn images can be created whether your baby is 10 days old, 4 weeks old, or even older. While sessions with older newborns may include more awake images and interaction, those photographs can be just as meaningful.

What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?
This is one of the biggest reasons I reserve newborn sessions based on due dates rather than fixed calendar dates. Babies have their own schedules. Some arrive weeks early. Others make their parents wait a little longer. When you book a newborn session, I reserve space around your expected due date and adjust once your baby is here. This allows flexibility while ensuring every family receives the time and attention they deserve.

What If I Didn't Book During Pregnancy?
Don't panic.
I often receive inquiries from parents whose babies have already arrived.
If my schedule allows, I am always happy to accommodate last-minute newborn sessions whenever possible.
Even if your baby is a few weeks old, it's worth reaching out. Every stage brings something beautiful to photograph, and it's never too late to preserve these memories.
Where Do Newborn Sessions Take Place?
Newborn sessions take place either in your own home or in my Beaumont studio, located just outside Edmonton and easily accessible for families throughout Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Leduc, and surrounding communities.
The studio is stocked with newborn wraps, blankets, and outfits, along with a curated client wardrobe for mothers and clothing for children up to size 4T. Everything is prepared before you arrive so the experience feels as relaxed and stress-free as possible.

A Calm, Baby-Led Experience
One of the things parents often tell me after their session is how surprised they were by how relaxed it felt.
There is no rush.
Plenty of time is built in for feeding, cuddling, changing, and settling your baby. Whether your newborn sleeps soundly, prefers to stay awake, or needs a few extra snuggles, the session follows your baby's lead.
My goal is to create beautiful portraits while making the experience enjoyable for the entire family.
